01What it is
GLP-1 Therapy at Sikara uses prescribed GLP-1 medicines, which act on the appetite centres of the brain and slow the emptying of the stomach, so you feel full on smaller portions and find it easier to keep to a plan.
Following a full history, examination and blood work to understand what is driving your weight, your doctor decides whether treatment is appropriate and which medicine and dose suit you. We do not prescribe by default, and we do not sell a fixed dose or package. It is not suitable in pregnancy or while breastfeeding, or with certain thyroid, pancreas or digestive conditions, and each plan is reviewed monthly.
02A session, step by step
Assess and consult
A doctor reviews your weight history, medicines and health conditions to decide whether treatment is safe for you.
Test and measure
Blood tests for thyroid, blood sugar and other markers, with body measurements, set your starting point.
Prescribe and teach
The medicine and starting dose are chosen for you, with guidance on taking it, eating enough protein and handling side effects.
Review and adjust
Monthly visits track your progress, adjust the dose and plan how to keep the result.
03Aftercare
- Eat smaller meals slowly and stop at the first sign of fullness. Large or oily meals can bring on nausea.
- Drink 2 to 3 litres of water a day and include protein at every meal.
- Mild nausea, constipation or tiredness is common in the first weeks and after a dose increase. Tell us if it lasts beyond a few days.
- Call us the same day for severe stomach pain, repeated vomiting or yellowing of the eyes.
- Do not stop or change your dose on your own. Weight can return when treatment ends, so the stopping plan is made with your doctor.
Following the aftercare is part of the treatment. The outcome depends on it as much as on the sittings themselves.
Start with a consultation.
A dermatologist examines you, confirms whether this is right for you, and sets the plan before anything is booked.
